What Are The Basic Steps In Placing Hair Extensions?

Weekly Hair Extension Tip for April 25, 2012

What Are The Basic Steps In Placing Hair Extensions?

The basic steps in placing hair extensions are the following:

1. Using a rat tail comb, part the client’s hair from the center of the hairline ending at the round of the head.  This should look like your typical middle part.

2. Create a T-part: with a straight line from the round of the head to either side of the head just behind the ear, cleanly part the remaining hair and secure with a large clip.

3. Prepare your first row, roughly an inch and a half from the base of the nape.  Gather the remaining hair and secure it with a clip.

4. Install your first row of extensions, noting to leave about an inch to two inches of hair on the sides free.  This ensures that the extensions are not visible when the hair is pulled back.  Place the hair extensions side-by-side, leaving no spaces between installations.

5. In deciding where to start your second row, follow the rules in installing according to thickness of hair: the thicker the hair, the more hair extensions are needed. Again, see to it that the sides of the head are free of extensions.

6. Keep going up the head with installing the hair extensions until you reach the curve, or the horseshoe, of the head. Stop when you reach this area, as going any higher will make the extensions visible.

7. When installing over the ear, always follow the thick hair application rule: install extensions side by side and row after row.

8. After installing the extensions, make sure to blend the model’s hair to create a seamless look.

How Do You Blend In Hair Extensions?

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

Weekly Hair Extension Tip for April 18, 2012

How Do You Blend In Hair Extensions?

The final and perhaps most critical step in the hair extension installation process is blending. You may install the hair extensions correctly and beautifully, but until you polish your work with blending, the hair extensions will not do their job of blending seamlessly with you client’s hair. It will simple look like an added-on hair. There are four points of interest when blending:

1. Determine Length.  Does your model want the entire length of the hair extensions to be the longest point of her hair?  Identify the length that she would like to wear her hair, and cut the hair according to that length.

2. Face Frame.  Trim and contour the hair according to your model’s face to create a nicely-framed look.

3. Connect Layers (not focusing on blending).  Comb through your model’s hair and notice the disconnection between her own hair and the extensions.  With a razor or thinning shears, stagger the hair so that the disparity of the hair is not so obvious.

4. Polish and Detail.  The ultimate step to the blending process is to meticulously blend and pay attention to the finer details of polishing your work: ensure that your model’s hair flows seamlessly into the hair extensions. At this point, you can decide to take the extra step of styling your model’s hair with a curling iron, a flat iron, or whatever styling tool you’d like to use.

Voila! Your client’s hair is a showcase of your patience and hard work!

What Do I Need to Know Before Coloring Hair Extensions?

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

Weekly Hair Extension Tip for April 11, 2012

What Do I Need to Know Before Coloring Hair Extensions?

Donna Bella Hair comes in a variety of 37 colors, ranging from jet black to platinum, to funky-colored hair to help you create the hair you want — whether it’s to match your hair,  add highlights or lowlights to it, or add vibrant color.

In some instances, when you can’t match the color you want exactly, you may need to color the hair you purchased. Since Donna Bella Hair is made from 100% human remy hair and has gone through extensive treatment processes to maintain the integrity of the hair, you can color the extensions as you would your own hair.  However, there are certain precautions to take when coloring hair extensions.  Here are a few of our recommendations:

- Deposit color to the hair; do not strip it of color.  This is particularly important to note because the process involved in lightening hair can damage the hair extensions permanently.

- Never go more than two levels when depositing the color.

- Color the hair extensions before installing them.

- Test the desired color on a strand of hair to see the results before coloring your whole batch of hair extensions.

As long as you follow these general precautions and others that may come from your particular brand of color, you will be able to achieve optimal results when coloring your Donna Bella hair extensions.

What is “Remy” Hair? And what does it have to do with Extensions?

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

Weekly Hair Extension Tip for March 1, 2012

What is “Remy” Hair? And what does it have to do with Extensions?

Remy hair means the cuticle of the hair is completely intact and not lifted nor damaged. It also means the cuticle is going the same direction. This is what makes good quality hair. Having remy hair extensions means having hair that won’t matte, become dry and brittle, creating a tangly mess.

Hair processed at other factories would say things such as “100% remy like” or “remy hair” which both imply that their hair extensions are not 100% remy. Having 100% human remy hair is the only kind we recommend to achieve gorgeous long and thick hair. Our hair extensions are guaranteed  to be 100% human remy human hair.

Can I Perm 100% Human Remy Hair Extensions?

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

Weekly Hair Extension Tip for January 26,2012

Can I Perm 100% Human Remy Hair Extensions?

Just like with coloring, we do not encourage perming 100% human hair extensions because we want to maintain the integrity of the hair extensions. Opt for wavy hair extensions instead. Also remember that human remy hair extensions can be curled temporarily using your curling iron. If you have no other option but to perm, always do a strand test to avoid wasting a full set of hair.

Perming human remy hair extensions will be the fastest perm you’ll ever do. In most cases, you should not perm extensions for more than five minutes. You can perm extensions using a color safe perm for most hair or a Joliet perm for blonde extensions. Curly clients can finally have the perfect curl from root all the way to the ends of their extensions. Be sure to use a perm rod that is one size smaller than the natural curl and a rod that matches their curl. This will ensure a blended texture without being able to tell which is natural and which is permed.
